Acoma Sky City. A place where “modern” architectural elements seem cocooned in centuries old pueblos, waiting to be found by Le Corbusier and transformed from mud and wood into concrete and glass. Some of these structures have been present for 370 plus years, and the people of the Acoma still inhabit Sky City. There is more information on this remarkable civilization here, in their own words: http://www.acomaskycity.org/main.html?pgid=11
Below are some of the oldest (if not the oldest) buildings in North America. Both were originally constructed from Adobe and provide examples of Mission style and Pueblo style architecture. Built in the early and mid 1600’s, the Mission of San Miguel and the De Vargas House show how important this material is in the history of the U.S.
